Historical Background
Sokil – a Ukrainian patriotic physical education and gymnastic society, founded in 1894 in Lviv.
Sich – a Ukrainian sports, firefighting, and gymnastic society, founded in 1900 by Kyrylo Trylovskyi. Operated in Galicia, Bukovyna, Zakarpattia, and also abroad.
Plast – the national Ukrainian Scouting organization. Founded in 1911 (the first official oath of members was held on April 12, 1912).
